Network Remote PC Access

Ok, so my dad needs some help with some Remote PC Access problems. Here are the specs.

Software: GoToMyPC
Connection Type: PC1 - DSL, PC2 - Broadband
Firewalls: PC1 - ServicePack, PC2 - AVG Antivirus
OS: PC1 - XP, PC2 - Vista

Problem: Everything works, but the connection/software from both PCs is slow, especially the file transfer.

Question: I am wondering if this has to do with the fact that there are two types of connections. Is there any remote PC access software (license of course) that is made for handling two connections, and at the same time is fast?

I am also wondering if the connections even have anything to do with this.

Some Extra Info: PC1 - is at a buisness, PC2 - is at a residence
ISPs: PC1 - SBC Yahoo DSL (TM), PC2 - Insight Broadband (TM)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He did use the software that came with his Terabite network server but that was about the same speed of GoToMyPC

ALSO: This is a MioNet (TM)

Any help would be great!

WELLLLLLLLL!

1)It could be the connections! If your Dad is used to a highspeed Business cable connection. the the ADSL line would seem like molasses being poured on a cold day.

2)It could be the ISPs that are being used depending on how much local usage. Yahoo is not the best for doing this as they are notoriously slow during certain times of the day.

3) It could be malware/spyware installed on one or both computers.

4) It could also be caused from overly cautious anti-virus programs.

5) unlike # 3 above...certain programs such as updater services and back-up programs, that are installed but are not spyware/malware could be over-riding your connection as they perform thier specific duties.

6) outdated networking drivers could also slow down the connections.

7) the speed of the computers have a lot to do with this as well as amount of memory installed as it can cause a bottleneck and slow down everything to a crawl.
************************************************** ****

Always start with cleaning the computers and making sure that they are free from any type of malware/spyware/viruses especially if there is a business computer being used.

shut down any program processes from accessing the internet automatically.
Takes a little skill to manage this.

Little risky but because it is a secured connection turn off the anti-virus programs after the connections are made.

try updating the networking card drivers .

Nothing you can do about the ISP... they will lie to you about being slow to begin with!

Same with the servers from GoToMyPC.

Hope that helps.

Exclamation

I will pass this on to my Dad. As for Yahoo, according to him, it i about as blazing fast as cable, because they have a 10/100 Etherlink adaptor.

P.S: He is the network admin. So any questions you may have, he can probably answer.

Could this problam have anything to do with the fact that PC1 is XP and PC2 in Vista?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I put some more info on the first post

Absolutely not. Since the transfers are accessed through the web and servers ...there is no issues at all between operating systems.

He can test his connections average speed here.
These two I've found quite accurate.
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Bandwidth Place Speed Test

Also is he using it to run applications remotely, or just to access files remotely.
If it's just to sync or access files, there are plenty of new products that may perform better.
This looks promising.
Dropbox - Home - Secure backup, sync and sharing made easy.
