Default Presto Tuneup Manual Removal: Windows XP and Vista

Presto Tuneup (also known as PrestoTuneup), is one of the most recent scamware applications on the Internet. It hides under the guise of a Windows system optimizer and Registry cleaner. This bogus program is identical to the My Supervisor application, and is believed to be from the developers of other fake programs such as Extra Antivirus, Fast Antivirus 2009, and Virus Shield 2009; among others.

Once it runs, the Presto Tuneup application scans your system and displays fake security breaches; whose resolution lies with the actual purchase of the program. The ‘breaches’ are shown as false alerts concerning insecure Web activity and critical errors with the system registry. As with many similar programs, Presto Tuneup’s purpose is to persuade the user into buying it; although none of the purported security issues are legitimate.

Presto Tuneup typically infiltrates a computer and alters the Internet browser settings after it automatically logs the system online. It also remains in the desktop background and constantly displays advertisements.

Do not purchase the said application. The manual removal procedure below will eradicate the scamware from your system at no cost, while returning your system to its state before the infection.

Presto Tuneup Manual Removal Procedure

1. The first step is to end the process/es running under Presto Tuneup. Open the Windows Task Manager by pressing the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys at the same time; or by pressing Ctrl, Shift, and Escape simultaneously. Select the ‘PrestoTuneup.exe’ file, and click on the button stating ‘End Process’.

2. Locate and remove the Presto Tuneup files enumerated below. To do this, go to ‘Start’, and then to ‘Search’, and click on the option ‘For Files and Folders’. The ‘What do you want to search for’ feature is also useful in this step. Enter the listed file names into the search bar, and choose ‘Local Hard Drives’.
