trouble Keyboard problem Help to troubleshoot.

Hi friends,
Few keys in my keyboard will not give the curresponding charector. Instead it gives a different charector. This problem is affected to
q, page up, page down, 8 (in the num keypad), space, some arrow keys, delete, ! etc.
Other charectors are OK. I partitioned my computer to both windows and linux. This problem occures for both windows and linux. I rechecked PS-2 keyboard port and updated new driver from the manufacturer's website. No use. There is no problems for other devices. Is it serious? Virus? Help me. I am including some events that I have done these days.
1) I cleaned up some registery files from windows system32 folder.
2) Uninstalled some softwares and installed some new.
3) I deleted some virus affected files.
Thanks.

Have you altered the keyboard language from US English to something else such as UK English?

To check this go to Control Panel / Regional and Language Settings / Languages / Details make sure English (United States) US is selected if you live in America...

trouble Its not oriented to windows

I did as you said wombat. But ....no use. This problem is not oriented to windows only. This is oriented to Linux partition also. I think the OS settings cannot fix the problem. That means there may be something oriented to hardware also.
I'm explaining my problem more specific.
when q is pressed- print q then ENTER
<- (left arrow) - print 1 then tab to left
8 - Num lock. (if two times, then up)
delete space

It may be that the keyboard is stuffed, if it's playing up in Linux as well as Windows.

Replace it with another to try and see if it makes a difference...

Is this a desktop or laptop?
If it's a laptop you can try and re-seat the cable or try an external usb keyboard.

For a desktop try replacing it.

You might also look in the BIOS and see if there is a keyboard selection for USB connection...if so and if you use the PS2 type connector....then disable the USB keyboard support.

Just make sure that your keyboard support is for what type of keyboard that you are using.

One other thing....the set up files for the keyboard is for the use of a standard US 101 key keyboard. if you are using something other than that it could cause you some issues..

This is to remind you a strange event. Yesterday, I started doing something with computer. Then it was found that keyboard has no problem. But now the problem occures.
In both cases, uninstallation of NFS(a game) was the last event. Perhaps, it may be the problem. If you have any idea, help me.

That very well could be the issue. Some games have an override script so that the keys on the keyboard can be used to control the functions of the game and game pieces...It could be that the memory for the override is not releasing itself when the game ends....thus giving you the in-correct key function. This happens from time to time when using an older game that is played in a compatability mode or when dealing with game play on a laptop.

A work around would be to update the driver files of the keyboard...

This may also help, although it is not especially designed for your problem. I have found that this utillity has helped on some other memory issues. It will not hurt your computer at all...and if you are using Vista, it is now included in the files...It operates in the background so you do not even have to deal with it except to install it.

Try a NEW keyboard.
If it happens in Linux AND Windows it's likely a hardware issue.
If the cable (PS2) is bad you could get intermittent issues as the cable moves it may work in one position but not another.
