Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has just been released by Microsoft. Nearly a year an a half since its release last October 2009, Windows 7 is getting a major update for security and enhancement fixes with Service Pack 1.

All users of Windows 7 should check and apply Service Pack 1. This major update include a LOT of security enhancement fixes. A major improvement of this patch will benefit users who run the "Virtualization" capabilities of Windows 7 and its server end Windows Server 2008.

SP1 also includes new improvements to features and services in Windows 7, such as improved reliability when connecting to HDMI audio devices, printing using the XPS Viewer, and restoring previous folders in Windows Explorer after restarting.
An amazingly detailed list of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 changes and hotfixes can be viewed in the Excel file provided by Microsoft here

Get SP1 through Windows Update

The recommended (and easiest) way to get SP1 is through the automatic updating in Windows Update. It takes about 30 minutes to install, and you'll need to restart your computer about halfway through the installation.

Get SP1 offline installer through Microsoft Download Center

Users who want to save the full installer for later updating on other computers can proceed to the Microsoft Downloads Center on this link

All Windows 7 users should take advantage of Service Pack 1. It contains numerous fixes to possible Windows 7 bugs, and enforces even better security within Windows itself. Update now, and keep other Window 7 users updated as well of this news
