Default PC sound quit working - windows vista


My computer won't play any sound and the drivers are all functional, i checked.
It has done this before and then self repaired some how but now it seems to have finally given up. any advice?

1) Check your speakers or headphones

2) I don't know how you can check to see if a driver is not corrupted. Uninstall the old driver and install the latest one found on the manufacturer's website for your model. Even if the numbers match...uninstall/install.

3) check the sound properties from control panel and make sure that a sound theme is picked. If the choice is left blank then there can be no sound options. Simplest choice is to choose windows default then check the sound by highlighting a sound code and see if it plays when you press the arrow button.

start>control panel > sounds and audio > audio tab

Default sound problems


i checked both speakers and headphones previously, and i uninstalled the drivers manually and they reinstalled when i restarted my computer. by off the manufacturers website do you mean microsoft for vista or whatever company made my sound car?

Well, normally when referring to the manufacturer's website it is the company that put your computer together...if you have replaced the sound card that originally came with the computer then it would be the sound card manufacturer's website.
