Monitor Error Monitor Or Computer not Working?

Hi, I have a computer that has windows xp and it is a p4.Recently I have been having a Problem with it when i turn the monitor and pc on sommetimes it makes it pass the boot screen something it doesn't.The Problem is i get a message for the monitor saying Check singal cable then off in 5 sec.
I need to know if it is the video card it plugs into or the monitor itself!

Hello, have you played around with your hardware lately, like removing or replacing anything?

The best thing to do first, is to try with a different monitor and if you can, a different graphics card.

If you are able to do this and it still hasn't solved the problem, then check your memory sticks and try taking them out one at at time to see if there is any difference.
Also try replacing them with some sticks that you know work.

Regards

Martin

yes, does the computer itself stop running, or appear to restart? If not it is likely the monitor itself.
