Default dvd drive not working (code 10)

i recently installed a memorex dvd player/recorder in my computer. This was because my old dvd drive was not working. So i thought it was bad and bought the memorex dvd drive. Unfortunately this wouldn't work either tried going into device manager uninstalling and the installing again but it keeps telling me the device is not working properly (code 10) Do u guys think i did not install the hard drive well in the computer? any suggestions as to how i can fix this? Please help

Make sure your cable is seated properly, particularly on motherboard, quite often a new cable makes all the difference also be sure your drive is detected in the bios, quite simply code 10 means windows is "seeing" the drive but not detecting it properly therefore it cannot install a driver and start it. cheers ragzeeboy
