There are lots of ways. Depends on what you want to do.
You can network them, through a router to share files.
Link them with special USB cables. (
USB link cable
)
Link them through network card with a crossover cable. (

)

Another way is if both the laptop and computer have firewire ports, you can use a normal firewire cable.
This uses the 1394 Connection at 400 Mbps and works rather well, I have my two computers hooked up this way.
