non_prophet 12-04-2006 at 12:09 PM | Just joined this site today. Trying to figure out how to access files that generate the following message when I try to open them:
ACCESS DENIED. DISK MAY BE IN USE OR WRITE PROTECTED
I am using Windows XP Home edition that I installed on my laptop over Windows 2000. After creating several word documents I placed them in a desktop folder that I created. From that point on, the documents have been unaccessible.
I have tried a program called "Unlocker" to no avail. Perhaps someone on this forum may have some answers for me.
If so, try not to make the explanations too technical as I have limited knowledge of computer programs, etc.
To anyone who responds, thanks in advance. |

In other words. if you have, say, two user accounts on your computer, you would only be able to see the documents that exists within that users account that you have logged into in the "My Documents" folders. Any other files that exists in other user accounts under the "My Documents" file structure can't be seen. Unlocker will not work to access these files. The only way I have found to see and get these files is to actually log into each user account and copy or move the files in question to a shared folder. I was getting the same message you were and this was a solution that worked for me. |

DouginSC 04-06-2007 at 09:51 PM | Another amazing free program is Belarc Advisor which also displays all of the keys for all installed software on a PC or laptop. It may be available here, too. If not I know it is available at download.com |
