Default already have virus/malware

I'm desperate! I only have registery cleaner on my laptop. Last night I picked up malware, trojans, worms and viruses (32 total approx).
Can I install Bit Defender and run Bit Defender in Safe mode? My system is Windows XP?

I run my business off my computer and am dead in the water. Thanks!!
