Default Lost Sound in Laptop

My Acer Extensa 5620Z laptop with OS Windows Vista Home Basic and am on Dial Up connection using MWorks modem.

The laptop has lost sound.

But when mouse over on speaker icon in Status Bar it reads ''Volume 100 - Speakers - High Definition Audio Device''.

And when i tried to restore backed up files, it says the system restore is NOT working properly.

Please show me how to get back the lost sound.

Thank you.

Sound None

hi gullycan

first make sure that your sound devices are not "disabled" in the windows settings. click the start menu, control panel, then sound

Right click inside the playback tab, and make sure that it is set to
- Show disabled devices
- Show disconnected devices

if there are any disabled devices, click on them and unmute or check their volume settings

=========

this is the download page that i could find for your laptop (take note that you have to select the version of vista that you are using)

Download

then navigate to:

the direct link for windows vista 32bith sound driver:
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFi...C=Acer&SC=PA_6

i hope this helps

Thank you very much indeed Sir. Downloaded, extracted files and found a maze of items.

Just didn't know which or what to start with. Anyway clicked the 'set up' application and the driver got itself installed.

To test the sound, placed a dvd disk in and opened Blaze 6. It would NOT play.

Well, may be something wrong with Blaze because it was uninstalled during my
'No Sound'struggle days and reinstalled last night to test sound.

Could you please tell me how else to test sound on my laptop to see if the sound driver is installed correctly.

Kindly forgive me if my thoughts are haywire. For the last four days its a continous struggle and my mind is really tired.

You really are a wonder, thank you,

Cheers,

gullycan

Hello Gullycan... first, you should also go to your device manager and check if the driver is actually installed.. if it shows you a question mark or an exclamation mark, then the driver is either corrupted or inproperlly installed...

when the files are extracted from your driver packages, you could also try to use browse to try to locate the actual driver file, when tryin to install the driver..

Installed the driver and as it suggested i went back to set up and reinstalled it -- and it said ''the driver is now installed and it is ready for use'' (words to that effect).
Sadly the sound is still out. When mouse over it shows ''Volume 76, Speakers, Realtek High Definition Audio.
Blaze 6 DVD player opens but does not play the dvd disc and no sound too. Sometime recently it had sound even though my PC has lost sound.
Now both PC and Blaze have ganged up against me and have no sound in unison.
Thanks Sir.

i suggest you try running VLC media player.
first play an mp3 file using vlc, then use vlc to play the dvd disc. vlc in itself has complete audio codecs, so it should work to play all kinds of audio files.
we'll try to figure out what to do next, in case it doesnt work.

My Acer Extensa on Windows

Vista Home Basic with Dial Up

connection lost its sound.
Even DVD players play no sound.

Dominic of SysChat kindly guided

me to go to Acer site and

download the relevent sound

card.
Installed it and got confirmation

''the product / program is

ready for use''.
On closing that window, found another notification was seen lurking behind it.
That notification read:
''Windows Driver Foundation ---
User Mode Driver Framework Host Process stopped working and was closed''.

Please tell me how to get online help from Microsoft as my OS is genuine that came with the laptop computer.

Thank you, gullycan

Please tell me why browser Chrome generally says "the web page NOT available" even when connected to Internet.
Also tell me how to avoid this frustrating event.
Thank you.
