Default KNIFE.VBX in Windows XP

I have come in contact with a piece of software that relies on a image library "KNIFE.VBX" supposedly native to Win98.
As soon as the software makes a call for that module it crashes saying that "KNIFE.VBX" can not be loaded.
I have experimented with moving this into various directories including Systema and System32.

I understand that this image library is not officially supported inder XP.

My question is would there be any "workarounds" for this at all...without re-compiling the software.

I don't have large hopes for it but hey, I thought I'd ask.

Thank you.

You didn't say what the software is or who made it..

Have you checked to see if the company who wrote it has a work around?

It's hard to say much without more information.
