Default what is hard disk cloning

Quote:
Disk cloning is the process of copying the contents of one computer hard disk to another disk or to an "image" file (Sometimes referred to as Ghost Imaging). Often, the contents of the first disk are written to an image file as an intermediate step, and the second disk is loaded with the contents of the image. This procedure is also useful when moving to a larger capacity disk.

Yes you need software to make a clone/image of your hard disk
Ex: Norton Ghost
Acronis True Image etc...

Default general info

Hard disk cloning, like drive cloning, is creating a full copy of the drive or partition on it.
3rd party software will be needed and the disk(or partition) can only be copied onto a device with same or more space available.
If the configuration of the PC that will be using the drive later is the same(or very similar) to the the one that used the original, you have a pretty good chance that no tweaks or changes will need to be done whatsoever for it to work later on.

edit - typos

This tool takes one step further by providing you the flexibility of being able to use several types of storage media such as DVD+RW, DVD-RW etc. As cloning hard disk using clone hard disk software consider the best data recovery method because it can restore back your entire PC, including the OS plus your data, applications, pictures, video, financial documents, settings and everything like the old hard disk data.
