I have a computer which never had a cd rom drive, this was running windows NT. I wiped the drive clean and i am trying to load windows 98 however, the cd rom lights up but not working. The system reports that it cannot identify the cd rom drive which is a Toshiba XM-6102B.I need help to install this dos driver and where to get it?

Are you trying to boot directly from the CD-ROM? If so, it may be worth creating or downloading a Windows 98 boot disk and booting from that with the option to load CD-ROM drivers. If upon inserting the CD the system still won't run the disc, you may have a hardware problem.

It's hard to narrow it down without more information, but the first thing to check is the IDE cable. Failing that, the drive may be malfunctioning or it is even possible the controller is damaged - these are unlikely but all possible sources of problems.

Default Thanks

Thanks but I finally got it I had to load the real mode drivers in DOS
configuring the MSCDEX in the autoexec.bat and the MSCD0001 in the config.sys. and then load the drivers that came with the cd.
