Disk Service Pack 2 installations

hello to the person who can help,
My name is John and problem is i have a compaq persario SR1053WM with OS is XP Home Edition with 512meg of ram, AMD Athlon(tm)XP 3200+. It has the orignal operating system on it, the harddrive is an 80gig.

Here is the problem, I have downloaded all the microsoft windows updates, but it will not let me install service pack 2, but it will download it and when I get to the installation part it says, [Service Pack 2 setup error, Unable to read or write to the database, Service Pack 2 installation did not complete].

Can you tell me what that means and how to fix the problem.

Thanks you in advance,

John

Try installing Service Pack in safe Mode. If that dosen't work Do a search for the SP2 log file. Svcpack.log. Post it when you have found it. There may be some clues in there as to what is causing this problem.
