Are you connected to the unsecured network?

If your network is secure and there is an available unsecure one windows will sometimes connect to it.
If windows is managing it, go to the control panel, click- network connections, view wireless networks, change order of preferred networks - then change the order or remove the unsecured network from the list.

Just showing the unsecured network doesn't mean that it has connected to you or that you are connected to it!

Check your network settings and see if you did connect to it or they did connect to you. If so then open the router setting and change the encryption to another key and select that no one can connect without the key!

Thanks. Since I first posted I've changed everything. I made my SSID like 16characters long, I changed the key to about 16 characters long. I've got all my firewalls up. This morning there are 2 unknown names there!! Neither one is showing any connection. This is nuts. Why do their names even show up there if they aren't somehow connected? It does show that they have NO connection. Sorry. Pretty new to this wireless stuff.

The unknown names are showing up.....simply because they are being detected by your system wireless detector.

In order for you to connect to a wireless network your computer must be able to see them (detect the signal being broadcast). What you are worried about is simply the detection of a wireless signal that is in close proximity.
