trouble Networking 101 question

I am trying to share files between my wired desktop and my wls laptop. I ran the setup a home or small office network on both machines. The laptop, no problem I see shareddocs on the main and laptop but on the main(desktop ) machine just its own shareddocs folder. Do I run the setup for the wireless network since the laptop is wireless or what???

Are you seeing the laptop in the my network?

Is file and printer sharing enabled on both machines?

have you reconfigured the firewall been reconfigured?

When you set up the network from your LAN based computer did you create the network disc or diskette to be used to install on the other computer?
That would be the easiest way.

Can't see laptop

Yes when I ran the wizard I went with the default file and printer sharing

No I didn't create a disc since both machines are running xp I ran the wizard on both machines. At the last step I said just finish.

That is the problem...you need to rerun the wizard form the desktop as that will be the main computer. Make the disc(k) and then use it to run on the laptop.

The disc will make sure all settings are correct and that no conflicts are causing any errors.

Remeber that the names of the computer have to be different and they have to be the same workgroup.

Thanks for your help. I worked on the firewall and that was it. A happy camper. Have a good one.
