Default Msgsrv32 is Not Responding

Ok hi first time here goes. I use w98se, 1800mhz, ie 6.0, 40 gigs and 512 ram. I use adware and CcLeaner and cleanup and AVG 7.5 and no firewall .

I use the pc for 8/10 hours at nite and when i try to shut down a window bye clicking on the X it doesn t close down at all it just freezes up, so i try Ctrl/ Alt / Del to shut the site down and nothing works all is Frozen and all i get is
" Msgsrv32 is Not responding / system is busy and un stable ( ? ) try again later " and off course the start Pop up shut down command is froozen, sheech so the only way to shut the pc down is the off button, front one is frozen on - on the back of the PC ! ? This is getting very annoying and opps all power saving commands are on never. Would turning off the screen saver make a difference i wonder but then would the screen get damaged?

So whats this all about and of course whats the fix ! ?

byeee and thanks . . .

Microsoft's answer:

Msgsrv32.exe Stops Responding and Then the Computer Stops Responding

************************************************** *****

The file Microsoft msgsrv32.exe or msgsrv32.dll is a file located in the C:\Windows\SYSTEM directory placed on the computer during the Windows installation. The description of this file is "Windows 32-bit VxD Message Server" and is responsible for such Windows tasks as:

Handle Plug and Play messages between various parts of the operating system.
Handle responses to and from setup programs.
Display the initial logon dialog box if a network is present or profiles are enabled.
Play the system startup and shutdown sounds.
Load the Windows drivers at startup and then unload them at shutdown.
Run the shell program.

Cause:

Errors or issues relating to msgsrv32 can be caused by any of the below possibilities.

Resource conflict or issue
TSRs or other running programs
Sound driver or sound card issues
Onboard sound or video issue
MIDI device or codec issues
Power Management or screensaver issue
Microsoft Find Fast related issue
Memory manager being used
Issue with shell
Computer virus
Bad hardware

My suggestion on this is to first check the device manager and make sure all hardware is working properly....there are no yellow exclamation (!) or red X's (X)
If there are then these must be fixed either by uninstalling the hardware (drivers) or updating/reinstalling the drivers.

Then I would look into uninstalling the screensaver program (as you think this may all ready be a cause) you might try this first!

Repairing shell issues require a lot of DOS knowledge and registry editing and is easiest fixed with a new reinstallation

Default Another suggestion...

Totally agree with the aforementioned advice.

Try this wee prog...called STOPIT by McDev @ McDaniel Development » Welcome

Once installed, it's as easy as mud to use. On the left you have the progs running, with the progs running up front at the bottom of the list. One of those is the culprit. Often it is the dump file. If it is there...kill it by hi-lighting it, then hit "Stop It."

Barring that solution, start at the bottom of the list and kill the progs, cautiously, one at a time, going up the list...DO NOT KILL EXPLORER.EXE...until the log jam has ceased.

I've been using this prog since the 90's with no problems, or changes in program configuration.

P>S> you can also see what progs are running, and may as well be shut down for lack of use, but experiment with this approach first. If you kill something that was unknowingly needed...just start it up again...no problemo...

Good luck...
