trouble JavaScript Problem

Hi, Im getting a message in Yahoo email, that JavaScript is disabled, I checked everything suggested in this section on this site
at this thread
http://www.syschat.com/keep-getting-...bled-3945.html

I even went ahead and downloaded IE8 and its still saying javascript is disabled.
The PC, Im having the problem on happens to belong to my grandmother, she refuses to get a new one (the one she has is an older Emachine(2001 0r 2) so I used the restore cd's to set it back to factory setting like she wanted. The only thing she is interested in, is making sure her Yahoo email works right and she can add graphics and animations like she used to(she is hooked on PSP and Animation shop), this was the 1st time I ever used restore cd's, now Im wondering if I did something wrong, the one thing I did notice (and dont know how to fix is)
when I went into IE tools>options>Manage Add Ons, in the drop down box under "Add ons that have been used by IE"
the Java "is" listed but beside the word Java it says "not verified".
Then when I drop down to "Add Ons' currently loaded in IE", Java isnt even listed. Any suggestions, Im totally frustrated lol, I have been at this all after noon, any help would be greatly appreciated, and I know my GM(she is 81) will be happy. Thanks
