Default Install Win98 w/o CD Drive

I have Compaq Presario 17XL265 laptop. It has removable drives (floppy/DVD-ROM). Windows crashed, ended up installing DOS 6.2 to fix all problems. Had bad luck and now I'm stuck. How do I install Win98 when I can only use the floppy drive?
Computer not recognizing DVD-ROM (LG DRN-8080b).
I tried using a boot floppy, removing floppy drive, placing DVD-ROM drive, but the computer will not recognize it as a drive.

The best way to install this on a CD-less machine is by copying the install files on your drive, which is the win98 folder inside the CD. Boot using your floppy and just follow the steps until you get to the command prompt.

Change directory to the win98 folder you copied and run the file setup.exe by just typing it on the command promt while on the win98 directory :

D:\win98\>setup

Let me know how it goes. Best of luck

Thank you. I will try this out.

Quick Question:
I have another laptop (Dell) with WinXP Pro that works excellent. Can I switch the Compaq hard drive and install it into the Dell to that I can install Win98 without incurring any problems to my Dell and then re-install the Compaq hard drive into the Compaq? Will this work?
