trouble f keeps repeating

Hi,
I have a Compaq Presario desktop that just started this problem. I booted up this morning and went to a website and tried to type but the f key keeps repeating. I figured the keyboard was bad so I went and bought a new one. Same problem. It happens in Word (the f's just keep going you can type other letters but the f's are continuous), in any menu with an f present. I can't get into system tools because when I select it it automatically select file and settings transfer wizard because it starts with f. Can't get to any websites other than my favorites because I can't type any addresses.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

DoubleL

A temporary fix would be to switch from webpage view on your desktop, as pressing the f key highlights the item and thus in that mode selects it, while in a double click mode it would simply highlight it.
As for the actual problem it is most likely a hardware issue, but perhaps in the motherboard and not the keyboard.
*Can you type any other letters?

that's an odd one... if you hadn't gotten a new keyboard I'd be asking ifyou spilt something on the old one...

are you sure that's the *only* key that's malfunctioning???

The only thing I can think of is that the keyboard socket is damaged.
