How do you go about with the dual boot Vista/xp installation when you get the message that disk is not recognized at xp install time and the BIOS does not have an option for you to deactivate native SATA?

Default Daul boot nigthmares!

Some excellent tutorials here for Dual booting vista and XP when vista is the first OS. Finally got round all the raid issues that come with my Laptop, ie no recognition of HD during XP set up. Fixed that with nlite and Intel Matrix storage, but now we get the fun issue! My vista recovery disc has no option to repair from boot!!!! So after I installed XP and then went to repair the boot sequence so the computer recognising Vista and XP in the boot menu, all I managed to do was completely format and install Vista! Why is everything so rubbish?

Any ideas what I could do (and don't say buy a new copy of Vista!)?

Oh, I have had that, it's a nightmare! You have to create a bootable image of XP in which certain drivers are contained! You need nlite (free download) to make the image and burn it to disk, and you need the drivers from Intel Matrix Storage ..... something... Copy the drivers from the intel program once installed into the drivers addition section in nlite, (which ones?) well I did em all and it worked for me!!! Others have had other troubles there!!!

Good luck.

nLite is a greate program, i use it often. The drivers do not "have" to be on the disc, they can be loaded during the initialization of the install process, from another disc.

Right you are indeed! But you need to have a floppy drive attached if you're using Vista (as you know, I've read your tutorials and you clearly know almost everything!

Maybe you can help me, I did everything you said, but my stupid recovery DVD doesn't allow to repair, format and reinstall only! (Total Rubbish eh?)

So guess what? I'm back to a single Vista! I will get my dual boot though, even if it kills me! Anyway, can I do the 'repairing' of the boot menu without using the DVD Vista install by using VistaBootloader or vistabootpro (something like that anyway)? What's your take on it?

I wasn't trying to be misleading earily by saying 'on a disc' I just understand that too many option often fries the brain!

You need to boot XP (which happens auto) the download and install Vistabootpro. After that listen to this guy Install Windows XP in a Dual Boot with Pre-installed Windows Vista that's what I'm trying because I have a Vista recovery disc that can't repair! Only format install. It seems from the explanation that VistabootPRO can change the boot entries from the XP area. I hope I'm trying now!

I'm out of my depth here, have been all day. I suggest you copy that error and google it! Someone will have something useful to say on it. I'm sure you're not screwed though, just temporarily waylaid! I have heard of that error, can't say I know what it means. I'll google too and let's see what we get!
