Default Does DVD burner burn region free?

My current DVD burner (LG4081) is locked at region 4, and I know I can change this a limited number of times to read or play DVDs from other regions, but I have not bothered so far as I have not had the need to do so.

My potential problem now, is that I have compiled a DVD to send to my brother in the UK today, and would like to know if DVD burners burn region specific or region free? That is, will my burner burn my home movie in region 4, or will it burn region free?

I have used Nero6 to put the movie together.

thanks.

From the knowledge i knoe about burners, if they r like less than 3 yrs old, then they should be region free. But some could be region locked.

Burners burn what you "tell" them too. To burn region free DVD's, you need to use software like DVD Shrink or something similar.

My brother lives in region 1 and sent me DVDs that work fine in region 3. Burners may read a certain region, but I have never heard of burners that will burn region-specific. In fact, it would make no sense for burner companies to make that possible unless it were under court order, and I doubt very much that that would happen. What possible advantage could burner companies gain by making DVDs burn region specific?

Yes, sometimes other region stuff can work in other regions. And sometimes it depends on the disk also.
