Wink windows xp not installing in sony notebook

i formatted my hard disk using bootable dos cd.
when i tried to install xp sp2 in sony via notebook which already had vista using cd it displayed a message after detecting all
the hardwares .
i pressed the enter button to install fresh copy of windows xp.
The very next screen shows this exact error message.

"setup didnot find any hard disk drives installed in ur computer

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connectd and that any disk realated hardware configuration is correct This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program.

setup cannot continue .to quit setup press F3."

what to do.
should i install any scsi or raid drivers?

Just to clarify so everyone including myself can understand the problem
You said
"i ve formatted my my sony notebook which already had windows vista."

Does that mean that the hard drive is blank at the moment or you have Vista on the hard drive and you formated a partition on the hard drive ?

You also said
"i tried using xp cd .
it couldnot detect hard disk.
it displays check your hard disk is properly connected to ur computer
or it may require manufacturer driver."

Sorry maybe I am just not good at understanding short hand writing

Are you refering to bios not detecting the hard drive or are you getting the error during the xp installation ?

how can i install xp2 first and vista second to multiboot
Status1 has some good questions that would need to be clarified... as to whether or not you have windows vista still installed or not.

It would have been nice to know what computer you are using as well as there are some 100 different versions of a sony notebook.

The other questions here would be exactly how are you going about installing XP as a dual boot.....you cannot just go in and install XP as a dual boot. That is not how it is done in reality....whether you have the installation disc or not!

In most cases the installation failed to find a harddrive is because it can't be seen till certain drivers are installed...in windows xp that means that you will need to install the drivers for the sata controller that your computer is using. This must be done by the F6 method that prompts after the "Boot to CD...press any key"
