Windows What Windows Vista will do for PC gaming

The new Windows Vista operating system offers a shiny new user interface, better security, improved data organization, and near-instantaneous search. The new operating system will be a major gaming platform release because it includes DirectX 10, an upgraded and rebuilt collection of APIs that, according to Microsoft, will offer six to eight times the graphics performance of DirectX 9.0

It's been called DirectX 10, Windows Graphics Foundation 2.0, and most recently, Direct3D10. The naming situation will clear up as we get closer to the official Windows Vista release, but all you have to know is that DirectX 10 and Direct3D10 in particular will introduce a new era in PC gaming.

I havn't found a huge difference currently, but that could be due to the large amounts of memory that are required for both Vista and current games. If i was to upgrade to 2GB of ram, it would likely be much better.
The amount of increase will be minimal for current games anyway, but witht he new dirextX and windows enhancments, the quality of games has no where to go but up

You can translate almost every Microsoft announcement to "With this modified version of the previous Windows, you will need to throw your [insert hardware part here] and buy a new one to run it."

I hardly doubt that directx 10 will be all that they say.

I am skeptical of any big improvements in gaming from DirectX 10, as well.

Windows XP with Direct X 9.0c seems stable as it is.

I have heard rumors that one of the MMORPGs that Microsoft is publishing, Vanguard, is going to have some tricks up its sleeve, eventually for Vista.
