Default volumes turns itself off!

I belong to ActiveBass, an online forum for Bass players. When i play one of their audio lessons, i have no sound. I quickly click my volume control on my task bar and the SW Synth volume slider is at the bottom(off). I slide it up and i get volume. Next time i try to listen to another lesson, i have to do the same process. This is a new thing, i have used these lessons for close to a year now with no trouble at all. I'm running windows xp if that helps. I'm a self proclaimed computer dummie! I do however know how to adjust my volume.
Thanks for any help! SBJ

Have you recently changed your sound setup or installed any new drivers or audio applications? In the past I've had similar problems following driver updates where volume levels would reset themselves every time I restarted the machine - Reinstalling the driver generally fixed the problem though I never knew exactly what it was that went wrong.

If possible, please give information on your audio hardware as well as the driver version. It may be a known problem in which case we can look at a solution, otherwise we may be able to point you in the direction of new drivers which will hopefully solve this little niggle.
