Default unable to boot into safe mode

I have a windows xp desktop computer that i have created 5 limited accounts on and a single administrator account. lately i forgot the password of the admin account. hence i wanted to boot onto safe mode but it gets to a point and stops, displays a message that says "press escape to cancel loading .....sys file". please can anyone help me on what to do here to be able to access safemode. thanks all in advance
