Default Trying to remove a virus

I am using a Dell XPS 410 desktop, with Windows XP. It has recently become infected with a virus or Trojan, “c:\WINDOWS\systems32\kwinkmdt.exWin32ownloader-1B[Trj]. It was discovered by Avast 4.7 Home Edition. I am notified by Avast at each start-up. Any recommendations on how to permanently remove this problem?

Default Virus

Hi there

Remove avast and install AVG free at AVG Free Advisor - Free antivirus and anti-spyware downloads

Scan the computer and send the Virus to the virus vault and go back to the web site and download AVG virus removal utlites

Scan the computer with the utlites, when done.

Empty the Vault

Problem Solved.

Does avast not give you an option to remove it? It should prompt you to remove now or on next reboot.
Or is this the problem and it cannot remove it?

Hi William

The Avast gives you an option to remove it , but the virus has removed the option and taken over AVAST Home edition , I had the same problem when one of my programs got taken over by the same trojan horse

Ok, the best thing to do is first, delete all your private data on the internet explorer (or whatever you use) then go into my documents and see if somethig tries to install when you open it. If so give me the name of the installer. Reply back with your results.
