Thunderbird Folders

What is the purpose of retaining large Trash folder in TBird/Profiles/5w4u7oeo.default/Mail/ispxxxxxxxx.com/TRASH. Old trash deleted to recycle bin and another folder is created and starts loading data again.
I do not need this old "trash" mail.
