Default Read only files

I have recently copied some GPS fishing files from floppies to CD/RW. Although the floppies are not tagged read only files, once copied, the CD is read only.

I can't add anything new nor will the system allow me access to uncheck read only. It didn't use to be this way.

My system is windows XP and the GPS numbers are in an Andren.Com program I have used for 15 years.

Is there a windows tag that causes this?

CDs cannot allow the modification of files. CD-RW and CD-R are not the same thing. A CD-RW would allow you to erase and reburn, but you still cannot update files. Once the file is on the CD, that's it, the order of 0s and 1s cannot be changed. It is a ROM - Read Only Memory.
A floppy is of type RAM - Random Access Memory, which means the data can be manipulated and changed in real time.
You cannot uncheck the read-only, because the files must be read only.

As the files are small enough to fit onto a floppy, I would recommend investing in a USB flash drive as shown here As these are RAM like a floppy, but much faster and more reliable.
