Default System restore won't restore Device manager page is empty

When I select a date to restore to and run the application I get a message at the end... system restore has not made any changes...please select another date.
When I try another date I get the same message, I've tried about six dates but I get the same message.

When I go into device manager the page comes up but there is no information in it.

Thanks for your quick reply. JL

Is that the reason you needed to restore?

What you might try is either system file checker to replace original system files or do a 2nd repair option. Neither will cause you to loose your programs or data.

you will need a M$ installation disc to perform either option...

start > run and type the following

SFC /scannow and press enter

please note the space before the /.
************************************
to do the second repair option

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install
and scroll down to " XP repair install" and follow the directions!
