trouble XP Problem

I too have the same problem. I have a computer that I let fix. When it was returned I found out that they put a unlicensed version of XP Pro on it. I have the original disk but when I try to enter the key I get a message that the key is incorrect. Is there a way to load the licensed version of XP Pro over the top of the unlicensed version without the formatting process?? I have a lot of programs and valuable data that can not be replaced. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if the version (say XP pro) does not match yours (say XP pro with SP1a) then the cd key will not work. (or the reverse), to save your data and clean install your good copy of XP, use the following tutorial clean install XP without loss of data
