Default formating?

Hello All! My son-in-law told me i could reformat an older computer i have to get it to run better. I cant get the recovery disk to start. He said to tap F2 or F8 ( not sure, but 1 of them) till a screen comes up and then type something in. Cant remember what now. If anyone knows what the heck i'm talking about, please reply. I guess i'll give my son-in-law a call and have him refresh my memory! Gives me a chance to talk to my grand-daughters!
Thanks! SBJ

The only thing I can think that he meant by that is to enter the BIOS by pressing F2/F8/Del and changing the primary boot device to either the Floppy or CD-ROM depending on the medium of the recovery disc. That should allow you to boot from the recovery disc and restore your machine to the state it was when it left the manufacturer.

I would give him a ring and confirm this, but I strongly suspect this is what he meant - If not, feel free to enlighten me as I'm not sure what else you can do with regards to this by pressing F2 or F8 on startup.
