Cd Format option missing

This is the first time I have ever posted to anything online so I hope I don't break any rules.

I am using Windows XP and I am trying to format a DVD-RW disk. However, when I highlight the drive in Windows Explorer and right click my mouse, the Format option is not listed.

What do I have to do the get it listed?

Thank you!

Win XP does not have a dvd / dvd-rw burning option, it will only burn to cdr / cdr-rw.

The only time you need to format a dvd-rw disk is if you use packet writing software like inCD.

In normal burning use you just need to erase the disk when it gets full using Nero or some other burning software...

I am using HP Image Zone software from my HP printer and the HP Instant Share Option. After I select the photos and the files are "ready to download" and insert the DVD into the RW drive, I get the message "insert readable disk". That's why I was thinking I needed to format the disk.

What is the problem?

HP Image Zone software is NOT DVD burning software! You have to have a DVD burner and DVD burning software such as Nero installed on your computer.

Also, are you sure that your hardware is a DVD writer (burner)? Just because it can READ dvd movies doesn't mean that it can Burn DVD files!
