Default floppy drive problems

I just installed a flobby drive on my computer it read the device fine on starting up and the drive shows that its getting power but the computer will not recognize the drive to let me save anything or read anything from it. When i go to the add new hardware menu on the computer it shows the device installed and says it is working properly. Also i noticed on the add new hardware menu it is showing a 1394 net adapter error i didn not know if that has anything to do with the drive or not. Any help would be great on what i need to do.

thanks

be sure you connected the IDE cable correctly, most floppy drives have a reversed IDE such that pin one is in the last position compared to your cd drives.

Do people still use floppy drives these days?

Last time I opened mine a ton of dust flew out.

So funny and sad Sarah, but true. I have a number of old floppy drives around the house, most of them covered inch thick dust.

However, a floppy drive can come in handy sometimes if you have to do an emergency boot and motherboard will not boot from CD.
