Network file and printer sharing problem

Hello I am having problems getting the computers on my net work at home to share printer and files. The first system is running xp home and is an amd 3400+ 64 bit, The second computer is an amd 2400+ running xp pro, and the third is my laptop and it is a amd sempron 3800+ running xp media center edition. they all share an internet connection through a dsl router. two are wireless and the third is wired to the router. we can play games on the net work I have run the net working wizard that comes with windows and told it to allow printer and file sharing but it doesn't work. what am I doing wrong? or is there some sort of additional software that i can purchase to take over for windows networking software?

Thanks

No I only get a message that says that I do not have permission to access the resources even though they are both in admin mode they work great to play multi player games. And I never get a password prompt other than at boot

Hello reddragon533, have you checked your firewall settings as these can cuase problems with sharing over a network?

It may be that you have to configure the permissions, due to the fact that you are running across different operating systems

Microsoft has published an article which may help you: Download details: Troubleshooting File and Printer Sharing in Microsoft Windows XP

Regards

Martin

Hi,

are the computers on the same workgroup and all have different hostnames? If not, the admin of one computer will be a different user than the admin of computer nr 3 etc. Read a quick-and dirty networkingtutorial from the following link and do some testing...

home networking with TCP/IP and Microsoft Windows

Cheers,

Petri

thanks everyone i have tried and verified each of your suggestions and none of them seemed to be the problem I think that I will try a third party program that we used at work to solve a similar problem it is called network magic. thanks for the help. And if you have any other suggestions i would be glad to hear them.

Thanks
