Download Mother Board Monitor (Google it)
This will tell you if your board and CPU are running hot. Heat kills many PCs and blue screens of death are usually a big tell tale. Check to see if your CPU fan is working also. If its not, shut down the machine and don't turn it back on until you have replaced it!!

I agree i had similar problems occuring at what seemed to be random, i have a utility to tell me the speed and temp of fans and other such parts, and discovered my fan was running much slower (wearing down) than it should be, once i replaced it i have noticed a considerable increase in power and performance.

definitely sounds like a heat problem - my sister had the same thing happening to her and they found the fan was barely turning!
