Need to Clean Virus Infection

Hi,

My laptop using window xp got a virus from a flash disk even though there was a symantec antivirus 8th edition in it.

The virus behaves as follows, it creates word files for any program or folder that it infects, it you delete the word files, they are just created again almost instantly. The second thing the virus did was that it blogs access to many important areas of the computer such as the control panel, system restore, and finally it doesn't allow system scan and repair from free antivirus
program over the internet. It does this by terminating any download process or any dialog box that leads to the downloads.

please not that I am in a remote area and therefore has no access to antivirus programs on CD. Therefore I had to relay on internet antivirus.

I welcome any ideas on solving this problem.

Thanks,
karinkuwe.

Dear MOLDO4N,

Thanks for your suggestion, my problem is that I have never had any background on linux, besides how to get a copy of the installation package.
If you can provide more assistance in this direction, I will be glad.

By the way this virus name is currently being called raila odinga virus,
because it has a popup picture of raila with a message in it saying vote for raila odinga. (raila is one of the contender for the 2007 presidential elections in kenya)

Thanks,
karinkuwe.

To get a Linux CD. go to Google then enter this in the search "Kubuntu" Kubuntu is Very Simple Linux with a KDE desktop .It is also very easy to use.

When you get to the Kubuntu website click the download section and Download a ISO image that you will need to burn to a 700mb CD. You will need a Program such as PowerISO to Burn the ISO image to the CD.. do not burn the ISO as Data File it doesnt work like that.

If you need anymore help contact me i'll try to reply.
