Microsoft One Care - Is it any good?

I am thinking about buying Microsoft One Care for my computers. I came out here to see what others may know about the product. I have heard both good and bad things about the software. Any comments would be appreciated.

It looks quite good from the reviews that I have read, however be aware that there are hundreds of free programs that will do the same kind of thing, and a few will be a lot more reliable than anything Mircosoft can come up with. If you want to try out the software for yourself before you splash out you can download the 90 day trial here

Thanks

Thats what I am doing. I got a new laptop and have loaded One Care on it to see how it goes. AVG as of the 15 is no longer available as a freeby. I have been quite happy with it, but that's how it goes.

Adware and Spyware are two of my concerns. I have used, or tired to use several free programs over the years, but they don't always get the job done and I believe (I know) some find themselves to try to get you to buy them. I have been using Windows Defender for awhile now and it appears to be working, but how do I know? I don't other than I think I am still myself as a single entity.

One thing that I do and that I recommend everyone should do is upgrade to Explorer 7 and delete everything each time you go out on the net. I have used a program called cleanup for years and clean up every time I finish a surfing session.

I do not store my social security number or any numbers or accounts on my computer, so if I do get hacked, they won't get much except copies of some of my emails or a copy of a letter.

Just trying to decide what to do for my two computers now that AVG free isn't and thinking about other problems that come up.

Thanks

Zane

I just had to jump on here.

I see this ALL the time, its wrong!!!

"AVG as of the 15 is no longer available as a freeby. I have been quite happy with it, but that's how it goes. "

You're right in that as of Jan 15th AVG 7.1 was supposed to be no longer available as a freebie. That date has been extended to Feb 18th for some unknown (to me) reason. BUT

AVG 7.5 is a more recent version of the program and continues to have a free version. I do tech support, and have had more than a couple customers calling complaining about the NONexistant loss of their virus support feeling pushed into norton or one of the other for a fee versions.

from grisofts website "This change will provide additional time for users to upgrade to AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5 or other AVG products." emphasis on the FREE edition
