How to reset or clear CMOS on a laptop?

I have a pavilion N5250 that I bought used. My son set a BIOS password and has since forgot what it is. I have reset the CMOS on many full size PC's but I can't find a internal battery or jumper anywhere on this laptop. HP refuses to help because it's not registered to me because I bought it at a pawn shop. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

Hi Jpcov,

Welcome to SysChat,

BIOS passwords can be reset in two ways,
1. using software 2. using hardware.

I would first try resetting using software, here are two software's to reset or retrieve BIOS passwords.

!BIOS - is a PC BIOS toolkit offering password removal/decrypt and BIOS settings modification/backup/restore.

CmosPwd - Cmos password recovery tools

Please let us know if it works.

nice, i have been properly introduced to !BIOS, lol not by choice, but it saved me some trouble. My new mobo has dual bios so in the case of a mishap i can 'flash' from one to the other and restore defaults.
and odds are on an HP laptop, the internal battery is located directly under the keyboard, which is not removable on all models, so i don't suggest trying :D

Ok ive found out, there are two ways 2 do it 1u just need to take out the battery, and Press the on/off button for 5seconds, the 2nd is more drastic u need to dissasemble all parts and take off the small battery(its even in PCs) and hold iit for ten minutes, then its going to be ok (ive did the second way, because the first way works only on some notebooks) :boink: :caked:

clevo, i do the same way just like you do. It seem not all laptop use the same way..

I got the same problem because of virus, but luckily my on/off button still functional but the screen is blank. Therefore, i decided to take out the battery. Quite miserable and hope it will never happen again
