shaun 12-12-2007 08:22 AM

abt kaspersky??

hey what is you opinion of kaspersky anti vrus..it seems good in my machine but in my freinds its getting worse...

chr1s 12-12-2007 02:04 PM

kaspersky isn't free and is very "heavy" for antivirus.AVG is more faster than kaspersky

Jormin 12-23-2007 02:39 PM

I would like to recommend using Avira AntiVir. It's FREE and easy to use. I used AVG for years and I like AntiVir better.

HoldemDawg 12-26-2007 09:19 PM

Might try Avast....Seems to find more than AVG...I am running it now.

computergeek22 12-29-2007 11:06 AM

i think avg is better out of the free ones but one thing
i find about them is they don't scan deep down into your system
like norton etc.
and i still use norton bt when i have to i use avg!

I am a computer tech, and I HIGHLY recommend AVG free edition.. my customers love it, my family uses it. I use it and love it and wont even think about taking it off!!...

HoldemDawg 12-30-2007 11:47 AM

I repair/build computers also and I use AVG also, there was a time that AVG was making noises about having to buy the personal edition and I started looking around for an alternative. I found Avast and installed it alongside AVG. The first time it did a boot scan it found 2 trojans that seemed to get by AVG....Just my experience

ClevoM400a 12-30-2007 04:57 PM

Avg Is better in system departament,it is not big, eats lesser ram then kaspersky, but in wirus departament, kaspersky is the bes av for all,if u have a very good cpu with at least 1gb ram,use kaspersky, but if u have less use avg :)

Kaspersky

Just try on Kaspersky..it works very good in mu system and catches all virus...

helives95 03-01-2008 12:01 AM

Avg

I recommend AVG Free Edition. I use it at work on all 30 computers, haven't had a virus since.

joesue13 03-02-2008 02:22 AM

virus software

i hate to put my 2 cents in but i have used AVG anti virus and never had a virus it did not catch and remove

helives95 03-02-2008 09:35 AM

Pro

Well, its the proffesional version that removes viruses, otherwise you have to google the virus.

What good is it if it can't remove the virus it has located...and also I thought that this thread was for FREE anti-virus programs....pro versions have to be bought and paid for.

joesue13 03-03-2008 09:54 AM

avg anti virus

i am not sure we are talking about the same software. there are 2 versions of the software, 1 is free and the other is the commercial version. i just had a problem with a virus and avg caught it and I removed it. i downloaded the software from "downloads .com" and the avg site and both worked the same way AVG keeps the virus in a "Virus Vault" if you go there you will see all the viruses it caught. if you want to delete them double click on the avg icon and that opens up the test center window, then click on "virus vault".highlight the virus in the window by right clicking on it,if you have more then 1 hold down the "shift" key press the down arrow buton to highlight them all, go to "action " button on the avg task bar ,select delete files and they get deleted. you have to look at all the files to make sure you are not deleting a file you need .there are other choices like "heal file", "restore file". just make sure you don't delete a file you need, but if it is a virus it will state it , example "trogan file etc" highlight it and delete it. if you don't feel comfortable deleting the file just set up a "restore point" in windows and if it was a file that is needed you can always restore the computer to the point that you picked before you deleted it. i have never seen any files in that vault but virus faults and never had to restore my computer. i hope you understand all of this. i am a 2 finger typer and my 2 typing fingers are cramping up.LOL if i have put down some wrong info someone who is sharper then me will let us know..gotta go now--bye

I think he might have been talking about older versions of Avast.
From Avast website.
"Since version 4.1, avast! includes the Virus Cleaner, a tool designed for a complete removal of most common infections from already-infected computers. So now is avast! capable even to reliably heal (not only detect) the most common malware."

Most virus scanners have some type of Virus Vault or Quarantine system. Not all virus's can be removed or cleaned. So if a virus that can not be cleaned replaces a critical system file with it's own it can be quarantined until you can find a solution.

On a related note..
Recently my Avast portable version ran out so I was looking for a new free portable virus scan engine. I just installed ClamWin Portable on my USB drive and ran it on a computer that was thought to have a virus infection. It found 14 infected files. My other scanner detected none after running ClamWin Portable. I'm not to confident in it just yet though. Maybe someone else has some experience with the Clam Engine. It's easy to run from a CD also, which I like.

lurkswithin 03-03-2008 02:57 PM

The clam is a good anti-virus program...lots of Non Windows companies that I do work for are using it and have been for about 2 years now...But that is it....it is Not for Windows...only Linux and Bsod operating systems!

In the above statement...my comment about the use of an anti-virus program not removing the virus it finds is just plain and simple... a comment...I am more than aware of the fact that not all AV programs can remove ALL Viruses....in fact I don't believe there is any that can....

squirrelnmoose 03-03-2008 04:44 PM

Lurkswithin - my comment was mostly geared toward joesue13 . Sorry if it was somewhat vague.
It seemed like joesue13 was not aware of the ability to change the options of what to do with a file when it detects a threat.

I assume, from all your previous posts, that you are technically proficient enough to figure out most of the issues here without my help. If it's something you already know, assume that I meant it as a general comment for the thread.

Thanks for your input on the Clam engine also. I don't know anybody else that has used it. I thought I would give it a try when I saw it listed on PortableApps.com . They do good work there. So far ClamWin Portable is 1 for 1.

joesue13 03-04-2008 09:38 AM

which comment was that? i am still not sure about who answered what when i read these post, i get confused and since i am always willing to learn anything new about computers i would like to read your comment thank you
