Windows Repairing XP Starter Edition

Put your CD in and then re-boot your PC. When you see it on the screen press F2 to enter the Bios.
Find your way to the boot priority and set the CD-ROM as the first boot device followed by the hard drive.

Save and exit and wait for your PC to restart, when you see a message on the screen to press any key to boot from CD, press a key.

This should start loading from your CD, when it's finished you should see a few options.

Choose to install XP, on the next screen you should get the option to repair the current installation. If you do, select this option and wait for the repair installation to complete.

If you don't get the repair option, then cancel and go back to the first screen and press 'R' to repair your installation. This isn't the same as the method I've just mentioned, this will load the recovery console.

Once the recovery console has loaded, log on to your installation and type CHKDSK \R. This will start an error check and replace any corrupt files on your drive with working ones from your CD.

When it's finished, restart your computer.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards

Martin
