French handwritten letter to translate to English

I am trying to translate a handwritten letter in French to English. I am able to scan the letter and send it to MS Word or Word Pad. However, when I copy the French letter and try to paste it to a translator, it ends up with a bunch of letters and figures or a blank. I have tried several OCR's but they do not accept handwritten recognition to text. I would appreciate suggestions to be able to copy and paste the handwritten French letter. Thanks.
