where can i have the mp3,vedio codecs for ubuntu

my friends having ubuntu installed in their pc they want to listen mp3 songs and view movies through ubuntu where can we get the codecs for such things???

If I remember rightly, Ubuntu has it's own mp3 / video codecs without installing any more on a default install.

You also could look in the Ubuntu package repository to check for updated versions as well...
