Uninstall Java

How do I uninstall all previous versions of Java that interfere with a new Java install? I have gone through add/remove programs and uninstalled that way. However, when I type java into search dozens of files show up. How do I know what to delete without damaging other applications on my computer? Can anyone help me?

Follow the steps below to uninstall all versions of Java.

1. Click on Start > Control Panel.

2. Double-click Add\Remove Programs.

3. Click Change or Remove Programs in the left-hand side of the window.

4. Scroll to the Java program and click on it. You will need to remove every version Java that is listed.

5. Click the Remove button to its right.

6. Once you have responded to the confirmation message, the program will be uninstalled.

NOTE: You may see a prompt regarding uninstalling shared files; click the Yes to All button. These files are safe to uninstall.

Once you have uninstalled the JRE, please follow these instructions:

1. Click Start > Run.

2. Type in the following command: regedit.

3. Click OK. This launches the Registry Editor program.

4. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER by clicking on the plus sign to its left. Open Software. Click on JavaSoft and push the Delete key on the keyboard. (NOTE: If you do not see JavaSoft listed in this location, please proceed to the next step.) When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click YES. Scroll all the way to the top. Close HKEY_CURRENT_USER by clicking on the minus sign to its left.

5. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Open Software. Click on JavaSoft and push the Delete key on the keyboard. (NOTE: If you do not see JavaSoft listed in this location, please proceed to the next step.) When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click YES. Close the Registry Editor program.

Once you have uninstalled all versions of Java, download and Install the Latest version.

Hi, I used the instructions above, yet still see many 70+ java files when I typed in search into My Computer. I have multiples of many of the various types of files listed below. The java program that I need to use cannot conflict with any other java applications. Does that mean the I need to delete everything java off my computer and how can I delete the files and applications that still show up without causing necessary programs to stop running?

This is a repersentation of the types of files that show up. How do I know which ones are applications and can be deleted? Can someone give me more detailed help by looking at what I have and letting me know what is safe to delete and how and what should be left alone?

java.exe-287ea6c1.pf

java ~~~~~~~WINDOWS/system 32 Application

javascript File Folder

java Text Document

java GIF.Image

java JPEG Image

java INC File

java CLASS File

javapi Application Data

java AXF file

Many have the IE symbol to the right of the file name, or are HTML.doc I assume that if those were places that I visited on the internet, they are safe to delete.

Thanks for the help.
