Unblock web pages?

I was given a Dell Laptop with no administrative privileges using XP. I am only allowed access to 1 webpage all others are blocked. However, while traveling I used a cable company provider and suddenly had access to the entire internet. The provider offered no explanation.
Upon returning home, pages are again blocked. I am using a NetGear router and wonder if I can change any settings that might again give me complete internet access.

Try Portable Firefox or Goolge Chrome

hello Stuhak

i suggest you download Portable Firefox or Google Chrome

Link for Portable Firefox - http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

Link to Google Chrome - http://www.google.com/chrome/

Both Portable Firefox and Google Chrome do not need administrator access to install and run. Also, these programs have their own settings and are not immediately filtered/blocked by common web filtering software.

Im initially guessing there might be some security or web filtering restrictions imposed by your IT Department on the laptop. Please try installing and using Portable Firefox and Google Chrome. Let us know what happens. May your internets be free and accessible :) regards

ALL Executables are also blocked.

Dominick--
Installing browsers are not permitted. Nor are any other new programs. Somehow all pages were suddenly accessible when I was connected to another internet cable provider. I am trying to figure out what settings the provider was using that allowed this to happen and try to duplicate the settings on my own router. My suspicion the IP or MAC address may be the answer.

hi Stuart,

thats a bit weird. i suggest you use a different computer, browse to the links for the download of Portable Firefox, save the portable firefox files into a flash drive. connect the flash drive to the problem computer, and then try browsing.

Portable Firefox will be run from the flash drive, so its less likely to be blocked. Please update us if this works, this is a curious case indeed.

Fire Fox Portable

Amazingly Fire Fox ran from the Flash Card but all websites were still blocked. I still believe the work around this problem is what worked beforre. Again, somehow connecting to a different cable provider permitted the websites to come through. I would like to know what settings I could try to change in my router that could possibly duplicate the cable settings.

Install the browser is not allowed. Nor is any other new programs. Somehow, a surprise visit to the page when I connect to another network cable suppliers. I'm trying to figure out what kind of settings providers use to do this, and try to copy the settings on the router. I suspect that the IP address or MAC address may be the answer.
