software problems

Hi - I've recently received a new Dell laptop 2GB Ram running Windows XP sp2. After installing certain programs i've noticed things like buttons / options missing on the software screens. This has happened with 2 or 3 different software packages.

My work colleauge has the exact same computer bought at the same time yet the software runs flawlessly on his pc??

Anyone got any ideas?

Windows has issues some times, there is likely different settings among the 2 computers that you are unaware of. Knowing the software involved may allow a faster solution.

As WW says if you tell us the exact software you are using, and the version numbers, we will be able to help you more.

Are you using software to skin your OS by any chance? I have had a few problems with people using software like this, and it has difficulty skinning some software programs, resulting in missing buttons and scroll bars etc.

The software packages i'm having trouble with are "Workspace" and a package called "Server Manager". These are application specific packages for Engineering (3D Measurement). There not the everyday type software packages!! I've not got any sensible help from the people who sell this with their instruments - they don't know!

But yes - there are buttons / scroll bars etc. missing

I'm not sure what you mean by skin?

Thanks for the help so far guys.

Skinning means that you make the software (OS in my case) look totally different than normal, but still maintain the fuctionallity of it (like this). But if you don't know what I mean then I guess we can rule that out as a possible problem.

I have never heard of the software mentioned. Have you tried a full uninstall and then re-install of the software? Have you changed the resoultion of your desktop while running the software? I would recommend un-installing and re-installing if you have not tried that yet.

Also up date all your GFX card drivers from the manufacturers web site.
