Recording Device

Please tell me if there is a recording device with which I could record BBC Dramas and listen on the go.

An MP3 player records Podcast only. Am I right pls ?

I am able to download BBC Dramas to my Laptop.

From the Laptop I wish to load them onto a device to listen later when am away from my pc.

Kindly advise me.

Thank you.

Are these video or audio files, and what kind of device is it? iPod or some thing else.

If you are already downloading the Podcast you can play that MP3 file on any MP3 compatible player. It will play on any MP3 portable device, laptop or desktop.
If you are not using an Apple device you can use Windows Media player to manage and synchronize files to your portable player.

I like HappyFish. It will download files automatically (via RSS) and also manage synchronizing files to your portable device.

Recording Device for Laptop

Thank you S-n-M for the introduction to the two useful sites: Radio Paradise and winamp.

What I really want is a device that could record and play back BBC programmes that are NOT classified as ''Podcast''.

The device has to be a USB and not a CD or DVD.

Being non-teckie I may not be quite specific ... Hope you follow me. ...................thanks.

Record from what source?

They are giving you the files (as a MP3) what do you want to record they are not already providing?

I will try explain my need here ... in case am not clear let's forget this ...

I have a little device ... usb ... brand ''aigo'' ... 1G capacity ...
cheap one $20 ... I insert this into a port on laptop ... go to ''My Computer'' ... it is shown as an additional removable device ... right click open it and it is shown in status bar as active ... then I go to ''bbcworldservice.com/podcast'' ... choose a program ... it takes me to ''download'' section ... click download and the program is recorded in my little device ... now remove device, fix earphone in it and listen to recorded program.

Short of breath.

Now what I want is a similar device to record BBC programmes
other than ''Podcast''.
Say a drama or one of their other programmes like ''Outlook'',
Assignment, One Planet, News Hour etc etc.
All these programmes mentioned above are downloadable to my laptop and later listened to on the laptop itself ... but these cannot be recorded into my mp3 player mentioned above.

There4 am wondering ''Is there a device to record downloaded
programmes from the laptop ?"

The 'Download' is a recorded copy of the show, also know as a Podcast.

What you are listening to on your laptop IS the Podcast of those shows.
BBC World Service - Find A Programme - Assignment

If you are just clicking on Listen, you are hearing a streaming download of the podcast. It's streaming and not saving to be listened to later. If you want to listen to that show later, you need to download the podcast (MP3) and move it to your device.

Again I recommend a program like HappyFish. After you set it up it automaticly downloads the latest files from your subscriptions. Then you can synchronize (copy to) using the same software.
HappyFish >}};> Add New Feed
HappyFish >}};> Sync Setup

A Podcast is just a term generally meaning audio other than music.
Most Podcasts are a talk radio type format and usually distributed in MP3 audio codec. Other commom audio formats you may see are, .AAC, .WMA, and .WAV.

Recording Device

I think am getting the hang of it ... will try out Happy Fish ... a chap told me that I should download the program to pc and then ''simply drag and drop, it's very easy''.
Well, what is hard for me is ... I know what to grab and drag ... but ''drop where'' is the question ... drag the downloaded program to the ''active mp3 player'' in the status bar down below ? But it didn't work.

Well Sir, thank you very much.
