Try this instead.

Ultimate Boot CD - Overview

That Cd has some virus programs built into it. Download the image and have nero burn the image to CD...boot to the cd and navigate to the anti- virus programs...use one or the other and run it from the CD. It will clean out anything it finds and that should be good enough to get you back into your system to run your other spywar/malware tools.

You cannot slave a drive by leaving it in the other computer. You need to remove the old drive and directly connect it to the newer computer either by attaching it directly to the motherboard using the correct cable...SATA/IEDE or use an external harddrive case and connect it with the correct cable required for that case.

I tried the Ultimate Boot CD. Boy, that website is hard to navigate, so many ads. Anyway, I'm sure I downloaded and burned the correct files. However. my son's pc isn't even reading the cd rom.
In between all of our conversations I've been running all the tests from F12 Boot Sequence, and every single thing passed.
I'm going to enter unknown territory now. I've got the cover off of son's computer and I've located the hard drive. I have a little experience opening towers, I've installed memory, sound and video cards in the past.
But, I'm really going to need help on this one.
I googled "slaving a hard drive" and did find a website with good, real-life pictures. Now I'm nervous. I just want to clarify some things with you Lurks.
The picture website, shows installing the bad hard drive into another computer and explains using the wide cable from the bad hard drive to connect to the good hard drive.
I want to use my laptop, instead of actually installing the bad drive into my old pc. Is there going to be a place on the bad hard drive to plug in the SATA/IEDE (is that the wide cable?).
I'm game and want to try to do this, even if it doesn't work-but if I can get the sonny's files back that would be even better.
As always thanks for your help.

You downloaded the correct files and burned them????????
There should have been only one file to be downloaded..

Ultimate Boot CD - Download the UBCD

Scroll down and read the article then select the proper download....preferably the self extracting exe file as the note reads. then that file must be extracted as an ISO file then burned by your burning software such as nero as an image file to become a bootable and usable CD.

You will need an external enclosure to hook up the old harddrive by USB to any laptop as there are no other optiond for doing it. The enclosure should be self powered and capable of using SATA drives.
