pc cleaner software

Are any of the registry cleaner software any good (like clean my pc). thank you

DominicD 02-19-2011 12:20 AM

try CCleaner

Hi joesue13,

I admit i havent been using any registry cleaning software since a year ago when i upgraded to new desktop running Windows 7. I have installed and uninstalled a lot programs, but so far havent noticed any slow performance.

Also i havent run disk clenup and defragment on this desktop. Your post intrigued me to try CCleaner - a registry cleanup tool from Piriform the makers of Recuva

below is my trial run of ccleaner

http://i51.tinypic.com/30sh6rb.jpg

Here CCcleaner does a good job of detecting the right files to delete
Well, i didnt know that i had accumulated ~700mb of temp files! Also, since im an avid firefox user, i wouldnt have been able to track the temp files used by chrome.

This is the actual registry cleanup
http://i51.tinypic.com/29vxs9h.jpg
Well, a personal note is that my 1yr old Win7 registry seems clean of errors EXCEPT for that one time when i did a quick install of MS Visual Studio. It installed A LOT of programs in the uninstall window. These are many programming components in MS Visual Studio 2010. A lot of them are still left in registry.

This is that startup list.
[IMG]http://i51.tinypic.com/wrmic1.jpg[/IMG
My computer seems clean -- as if have been constantly doing this manually with "msconfig"

IMHO, i think CCcleaner is also worth a try. It will be specially useful for non-techie users. First, it helps you determine and delete a lot of junk temp files that are safe to delete. Second, its registry cleanup tool is superb.

Other features are secure disk wiping (if you do this, its guaranteed that the files are truly deleted and cannot be recovered). Also a peculiar feature is the option for keeping sign-in cookies for trusted sites - like gmail, yahoo, facebook etc. This ensures that temporary advertising cookies are deleted, but you remain logged-in on trusted sites that you specify.

I hope this helps :)

Thanks for the info. I have checked different reviews of this type of software and it depends on who is reviewing the top 10 software programs. Each person recommends a different one so it is confusing. I hate to say this but they all seem to say ccleaner is not that good, but I'll keep on looking and if I do purchase one and it works I'll let you know. I do run disk clean up and defrag once a week but lately my computer is very sluggish and I am not that tech savvy to manually check the registry. Each one I download for a free checkup says I have close to 1000 problems. I'll keep looking. Thanks again

DominicD 02-21-2011 02:28 AM

hi joesue13, if you're computer is running slow, it might not be the registry that you need to check. old and outdated registry entries dont affeect much of your computer's performance.

there might be some programs that are running in the background that eat up your processor and ram. if you know 'hijackthis", you can run it and paste the logs here. maybe we can check what programs are set to run in the background-- thus possibly slowing your computer.

thanks too, and let is know if you find any thats also a good alternative. btw, ccleaner scores a perfect 5 on CNET editors review AND an excellent 4.5 for 5029 user reviews!

Hi
Well it took me some time but I figured out how to run hijackthis and send you the results. Here they are. My head hurts just looking at it. Thank you for your help

We use C Cleaner at least once in 10 days.
We use RevoUninstaller to uninstall unwanted or disliked programs.
The Uninsall Program in Windows > Control Panel only uninstalls the program and does NOT remove the left behind files in the Registry which over time will clog up the Hard Disk and slow down the PC.
RevoUninstaller scans the Registry and help us to remove all the files left behind in the Registry.

Try it once and you will know the difference.
Cheers.
